The Reason for the Season

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5And [...]

9/11, Ten Years Later

People more eloquent than I am will be writing of all of the details of the attack on America that happened on September 11, 2001, often remembered by the short form “9/11.” The media will be full of tributes and time lines, and that is as it should be. Others will look at how our [...]

Balance the Budget: Now is the Time

A new video from Representative Cathy McMorris Rogers (R-WA,) Co-Chair of the Republican New Media Caucus. Since President Obama has been claiming the mantle of Reagan, it’s particularly appropriate to look at what President Reagan actually said when he spoke to the nation about a Balanced Budget Amendment.

Ding! Dong! bin Laden’s Dead!

So it’s been confirmed by just about everyone that Osama bin Laden is dead. He was hiding, not in a cave, but in a mansion with high walls across the street from the local police station in a town where an entire division of the Pakistani army is headquartered. Another “ally” that has gotten billions [...]

Unions Forfeit My Sympathy

Today someone from the Communications Workers of America was demonstrating outside of the building in DC that houses both FreedomWorks and Fox News in support of the public employee unions in Wisconsin attacked a young woman I know and like to think of as a friend, Tabitha Hale. Tabitha works at FreedomWorks, and with a number of other bloggers I was a guest at a party she hosted during CPAC at FreedomWorks.

Something broke inside me when I heard that Tabitha had been attacked. Unions have apparently decided that it’s OK to assault women in public. Call me a chauvinist if you must, but to me that is beyond the pale.

History Rhymes in the Middle East

Like a pressure cooker with the safety valve tied down you had to know where to look to see the signs that it was more than just a small group of malcontents. Then the lid blew off. People who wanted freedom took to the streets. A banned Islamist group called the Muslim Brotherhood joined in. Many of the police and military started taking off their uniforms and joining the rebellion. A nation burned.

The Vaccination as a Miracle

The debate over a possible link between autism and vaccination hit the news again this week. A study that linked vaccination with autism was shown to be a fraud. The story was mentioned on Fox News’ “Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld” last night; in fact the host made it the subject of his “Greg-alogue.” This [...]

The Year I Led the Rose Parade

You know that you’re running REALLY late for the Rose Parade when you’re on a freeway in Pasadena and there is no traffic. Everybody is either at home avoiding the nightmare of tourist traffic, out of town avoiding the nightmare of tourist traffic, or at the parade themselves. On the other hand, the lack of traffic and the fact that 90% of traffic cops are manning road blocks or directing traffic somewhere means you can often make up for lost time.

CONAD, NORAD, Santa, and Scrooges

I’ve seen a few Facebook and several Twitter posts that sound a great deal like Scrooge. “Christmas! A fine excuse for NORAD to pick the taxpayer’s pocket every 25th of December!” from the childless who have apparently lost their inner child, and a few rueful remarks from parents who are suffering through the throes of their kid clicking Refresh every couple of minutes to see where Santa is RIGHT NOW! But the rueful parents will smile at the memory, as will their kids in later years.

As for the Scrooges: Get over yourselves.
